Datern was founded in 2020 with the aim to provide internship opportunities to fast growth companies and students who are all about making a difference with data.
We now do so much more...
After focusing on training interns, Datern started delivering our own data projects and growing our team of Data Consultants.
Starting small but developing quickly, Datern took data analysis and data engineering projects with our solutions team. We work on these problems closely with our clients, with open and regular communication to ensure maximum satisfaction.
Recruit, Train & Deploy
Through a fixed term internship, we provide access to our network of students to reduce the risk of taking on full time employees to work on current projects. Datern works with top performing students who are passionate about data and then trains them in the skills companies need.
Through our intensive training programme, students learn and apply the skills needed to excel in fast moving environments. This allows them to work on real projects as soon as they start and eliminates the need for time consuming and inefficient training during a short internship.

Datern works with a variety of companies in a large range of sectors such as manufacturing, consumer and finance to assist with data problems. We have been approached by our clients wishing to explore and progress on their data journey.

Meet the team
Tom Allport
Founder
Datern was founded by Tom Allport in 2020, a maths graduate with a passion for all things data. After completing an internship at a New York based digital media startup, he saw a gap in the UK where startup and fast growth companies struggle to access high quality undergraduate interns.
Joel Parkins
Data Consultant
Joel joined Datern back in Feb 23 after looking for a career change from Research Chemist to Data Analyst. He has since gained experience in data migration, engineering, & analysis. Joel enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, climbing, cinema, music, photography, and the continuous propagation of his vast collection of indoor plants.
Raquel Monforte Fernández
Data Consultant
Mathematics graduate from the University of Manchester and best paper-boat maker in Datern. Raquel first joined as a Data Science Intern and then joined permanently as a data consultant.
Tom Phillips
Technical and Business Executive
Tom Phillips was the first person hired by Datern, after he completed his Data Science internship with us in 2022. Tom previously worked in IT in his hometown in Hull, but fancied a career change and was more interested in data. Tom loves rock music and to travel.
Rafe Cotton
Data Consultant
After entering the professional data analytics field during Covid-19, Rafe realised that this was where his real academic interest lay and decided to pursue a career as a data consultant. Outside of work Rafe enjoys activities in the great outdoors especially climbing and surfing as well as returning from these adventures to watch movies.
Peter Rizk
Data Consultant
Looking for a career in data consulting shortly after graduating from the University of Manchester, Peter joined Datern in 2024 and became the best wine maker in the company.
